The Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) is pleased to announce the extension of its 2023-2025 Strategic Plan to March 31, 2028. This decision reflects the Commission’s commitment to the priorities set out in that Strategic Plan, which advances the principles and protections rooted in the Ontario Human Rights Code (the Code) and fosters a strong human rights culture across the province. This extension ensures continuity, stability, and sustained progress toward the OHRC’s strategic objectives.
The extended Strategic Plan remains anchored in five priority areas: Indigenous Reconciliation, Criminal Justice, Health and Wellbeing, Education, and Human Rights Culture. These priorities are still relevant and guide the OHRC’s work, ensuring that a human rights-based approach informs public policy, institutional practices, and community engagement.
The OHRC will continue to build on the progress achieved under the current plan to deepen its impact on systemic issues which affect the lives of individuals across Ontario.
At the heart of the OHRC’s work are the foundational values enshrined in the Code – the inherent dignity of humans, the rule of law, access to justice, equity, fairness and freedom from all forms of discrimination. These are the foundation of democracy and Canadian values.
The OHRC looks forward to continuing to collaborate with its partners, stakeholders, and communities towards the protection of human rights for everyone.
Sincerely,
Patricia DeGuire
Chief Commissioner
Ontario Human Rights Commission
