Toronto - The Ontario Human Rights Commission will be launching its latest publication, Human Rights at Work, tomorrow at the annual Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario conference in Toronto. Human Rights at Work is a plain language guide for employers and covers a number of workplace-related human rights issues.
"The launch of this publication is quite timely," noted Chief Commissioner Keith Norton, "as 75 per cent of all complaints received at the Commission are in the area of employment." Among these complaints, disability and race are the most frequently cited grounds.
Human Rights at Work addresses issues relating to accommodating persons with disabilities, anti-discrimination and harassment policies, rights for pregnant employees and benefits for same-sex partners. "The guide is easy to understand and provides employers with practical information, such as a list of prohibited interview questions and a sample job application form," said Commissioner Norton.
The launch of Human Rights at Work will take place tomorrow at 2pm in the Kent Room at the Sheraton Centre. It is one of many activities the Commission has planned at the HRPAO conference. The Executive Director of the Commission will be giving a presentation on what’s new in human rights today at 4pm. The Commission will also have a booth throughout the three-day conference where human resources professionals can pick up the Commission’s latest publications and speak with Commission staff.
