The OHRC welcomes today’s announcement by Facebook Canada that aims to ensure advertisements cannot discriminate based on factors such as age, gender, or postal code.
This announcement follows interventions by the Ontario Human Rights Commission and the Canadian Human Rights Commission, over our respective concerns that Facebook’s advertising platform facilitates discriminatory advertising in a manner contrary to Canada’s federal and provincial human rights laws.
The OHRC will be monitoring the implementation of these changes closely. We recognize Facebook for taking steps to eliminate discrimination and support an inclusive society.
