OHRC and HRPA webinar on drug and alcohol testing
November 03, 2016 at 12:00 pm
30 minutes
While some employers use drug and alcohol testing to enhance workplace safety, it represents a collision between workplace requirements and employee human rights and privacy rights. It may also discriminate against people with addictions, which is considered a disability protected by the Ontario Human Rights Code. This webinar examines the human rights implications of workplace drug and alcohol testing.
Learning objectives:
- The OHRC’s perspective on the current state of the law in Ontario related to drug and alcohol testing
- The human rights of an employee or job applicant when it comes to drug and alcohol testing
- The employer’s obligations under the Code when it comes to designing and implementing drug and alcohol testing programs or policies
Speaker: Anya Kater
Anya Kater has a Master’s degree in Social Work and works as a Senior Policy Analyst at the OHRC. Anya develops and drafts public policy on a range of human rights and social justice issues. She also delivers public education and undertakes consultations with stakeholder groups and the broader public.
