Toronto - The Ontario Human Rights Commission (the “Commission”) has adopted a new Extension Procedure that will standardize its processes and responses to requests for extensions in submitting responses to a Case Analysis or Disclosure Letter under Sections 34, 36 or 37 of the Code.
In order to help process cases in a timely manner, parties involved in a human rights complaint are required to file submissions with the Commission within certain deadlines.
Under the new Extension Procedure, the Commission will consider requests for extension to these deadlines for reasons arising from extreme personal hardship, or for reasons that require accommodation under the Ontario Human Rights Code, as set out in the Commission’s Policy and Guidelines on Disability and the Duty to Accommodate.
Requests for extensions should be made to the responsible Manager in the Mediation and Investigation Branch, or to the Registrar.
The Extension Procedure is effective immediately, and will be included in standard training for all current and future Commission managers in the Mediation and Investigation Branch.
