Toronto – A new survey launched today by the Ontario Human Rights Commission (OHRC) asks for public input on definitions for the new grounds of “gender identity” and “gender expression” that were added in June 2012 as grounds of discrimination under the Code.

To reflect these new Code grounds, as well as other developments relating to human rights and gender identity, the OHRC is revising its Policy on discrimination and harassment because of gender identity and including discussion of gender expression.

The survey seeks input on defining the new grounds and other terms, and invites people and organizations to talk about lived experiences of discrimination, organizational responsibilities and ideas for advancing the rights of transgender people.

Questions can be accessed online via the OHRC’s website, and its Facebook page.

Interested parties can use the following URL to fill out the survey form: https://fluidsurveys.com/s/ohrc_gender_identity/

The survey is available in English and French. Participants can complete the survey anonymously, or provide contact information so that the OHRC can follow up with questions, if necessary. For those who provide contact information, the information will be kept confidential and not shared with anyone outside of the OHRC. The survey is available online until May 24rd.
